The Creativity Project: NaNoWriMo
Continuing recharging my creativity through November
In my last post, I discussed my plan of taking a month off to heal and recharge. And deal with the death of a family member.
It was wonderful. I got back to writing and crafting. I got ahead of my schedule and made enough money doing creative work to take November off.
As a writer, November is a key month of the year. NaNoWriMo takes up a lot of writers’ months. I do it every year and it accounts for a large amount of my word count for the year. Last year was no exception.
Having a month to work through a story where I don’t have to worry about squeezing in writing time around a job was a nice change from my usual November. I hit the ground running and put up some big numbers early on in the month. So much so that I hit the fifty thousand word goal before the month was half over.
I went to the Evening of Scribing Recklessly and met a ton of nice people. And sitting with a group of writers helped invigorate me and I want to do more meet-ups throughout the year. I just haven’t gotten there yet.
I also started joining writing sprints online to force myself to focus when I’m home. I found myself getting distracted really easily and needed something to get me to zone in.
By the month’s end, I managed to get seventy-one thousand words and completed my book. I also edited another completed novel to send to my beta reader and completed edits on that book.
I’m not going to lie, younger me is having a ball being a full-time writer. I even tested out a couple of different writing time keeping methods, which I will talk about later.
I learned a lot about my writing throughout the month and noticed that I would spend a lot of time messing around when I should be working. Hopefully, I can fix it.
