The Creativity Project: Little Habits
Remembering how I got here and how I’m going to continue.
Over the last year, I’ve picked up some bad habits and let some of my good habits slide. Like keeping up on my morning routine.
Some of this happened slowly. But some of it started out of necessity.
I took a huge break from working out. At the beginning, it was deliberate. I had sustained injuries that just weren’t healing because of the nature of my job. So I stopped working out so I could heal.
And after a couple of months, my elbow wasn’t hurting, my shoulder wasn’t causing me to eat a ton of pain killers just to get through my day. I felt better, but I didn’t go back into the gym. Partially because I was scared to do it and re-injure myself. But mostly because I broke the habit.
Which also meant that my morning routine was partially broken. Part of my routine includes a light round of exercises that I stopped doing so I could heal. By the time I felt like I could jump back in, the entire routine felt like too much to handle all at once.
Instead of leaning on the small changes I used to get to the point of having a morning routine, I went the all or nothing route and mostly ended up with nothing.
What was once a stable base was now shaky. Most of my hard earned habits are gone and are replaced with bad ones.
So I’m taking the last couple weeks of this year to take stock and start again. Start small and rebuild my life to exactly where I want it to be.
What habits and changes are you making in your life going into the new year? Let me know!
