Starting Over

Healing and acknowledging the need to slow down.

I just had two weeks of my arm being in a sling. It sucked. I pulled a muscle in my shoulder and didn’t let it heal for over a month. So I got a lovely sling to wear for two weeks. It was quite the fashion accessory.

I was amazed at the number of things I didn’t think used my arm. Every trip to the gym became a limited leg day (and I don’t like leg day) unless I had someone who could move weights around for me.

And I ended up missing obstacle training. Mostly because my car decided to crack a hose, but I would’ve had to sit out most of the class anyway.

Today I took off the sling and started the process of slowly rehabbing my shoulder. I want to push and do everything I did before I went to the doctor, but I know that way leads to surgery and even more time off from training.

It’s frustrating to reset weights to where you were a year ago and know you shouldn’t go full out in class.

But slowing down made me realize just how much I went through the motions at the gym and how I need to switch things up (and how many people at the gym look bored as hell with their workouts). So I’m taking the time to heal and start over so hopefully this will never happen again.

Weekly Goals

Write 7K words: Success.

Sew ten dice bags: Success.

Read a book: Success. I finished Master the Day by Alexander Heyne. Highly recommended for anyone looking to up their habits game.

Go to the gym twice: Success. Although there are only so many leg days I can do before I have to take a break.

Go to class: Failure.
