Don’t Hesitate

Not letting my doubt get in the way.

I fell off the monkey bars in obstacle training.

I knew the instant before it happened that I would lose my grip. Not because I was tired yet, but because I hesitated a moment too long and my brain started to doubt what I was doing.

And then I watched it happen to my friend. I could tell you right before she fell off that it was going to happen.

There’s a moment when you are powering through something new and challenging where you think “man, I’ve got this” and then your brain goes “wait, what if?” That’s the moment I fail.

I fail to start the cool new project. I fail to finish the book I’m writing. I fail to complete my monkey bar run.

Mel Robbins has this cool trick called the five second rule. When you think about doing something you count down from five and then do it. It stops your brain from taking over with the what ifs.

It’s not practical for the monkey bars if you’re already on them.

What I need to learn is to not hesitate in the middle of something. To go full out. To seize the crap out of the day. To finish what I start.

To not hesitate.

Weekly Goals

Write 7K words: Success.

Read one book: Success. I finished Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas just in time for the last book of the series to show up at my door this week.

Sew 10 dice bags: Success.

Go to class: Failure, unless you count obstacle training. Everyone in my class has been lax on taking the initiative on setting up a meeting time.

Go to the gym twice: Success.
