Already Behind

But not letting it worry me

I’m already behind on my goals for the year, most specifically for this month. Not surprising seeing as just about everyone has failed a super ambitious goal or given up entirely within the first month or two of the year.

The goal I was looking to knock out this month was running a mile every day. If you’ve been following me, you know it’s hilarious because I’m not the biggest fan of running. But I thought it was a good way to get in shape for my marathon I haven’t really been training for as diligently as I probably should be.

I started off on the wrong foot (all running puns intended) by finishing 2021 with a 12.5 mile run/ walk on my treadmill. And getting myself a terrible blister. So the first couple of days weren’t a full mile as I was healing.

Not a problem. The goal is for 30 days of consecutive running, I can still get that in before I get on my plane, right?

Wrong. Guess who tested positive with the plague and had no energy to run?

So my training for this marathon is not going to be where it needs to be, but I’m still fairly certain I can pull off finishing in under six hours.

But I won’t be in any shape to run the day after, so I’ll probably wait until after I come back to start over on the goal of running for 30 days.

I still have to train and test my hydration and fuel situation (mostly done with that part because it’s the delicious part, but I could stand to tweak a few things). There are plenty of miles I need to put in before I head out to do something stupid.

Because who does this for fun?

Not the girl who learned to hate running in school.

I know I’ll be proud of myself when I finish and get back on track with my goals, but I refuse to let a setback become a stumbling block on reaching my goals.

Every step I take is getting me closer to who I want to be, even if the path isn’t straightforward.
